LEDTRONICS ADDS TO SERIES OF REPLACEMENT FLOOD LIGHTS
Torrance, CA—LEDtronics® has added to its series of energy-efficient replacements for PAR38 light bulbs. The high-power PAR38-12X2WF series of warm-white and pure-white frosted soft-flood bulbs offer long-lasting durability, low power consumption and money savings. They run a wide range of voltages from 85 to 265VAC, requiring no special adapters, while consuming less than 18 watts. The bulbs directly replace halogens and metal halides up to 90 watts, providing 77% to 85% energy savings.

WASTE MANAGEMENT OFFERS NEW SOLAR POWERED COMPACTOR
Houston—Waste Management has entered into an agreement with BigBelly Solar under which Waste Management will provide WM Solar Powered Trash Compactors to its customers, including high-traffic facilities. Under the agreement, Waste Management has become the exclusive waste and environmental services company distributor of BigBelly solar compactor technology in North America. The new compactors are completely self-powered, using built-in solar panels to compact trash. When the unit reaches capacity, sensors trigger an internal compactor that flattens the contents, converting 180 gallons of waste into easy-to-collect bags. A wireless system then signals that the unit is ready to be picked up. This cuts the need for trash pickup by up to 80%. The compactors also include receptacles for collecting plastic bottles, newspapers, glass and other recyclables. Recently, Waste Management installed 15 units at Patriot Place, a 1.3 million-square-foot retail and mixed-use center adjacent to Gillette Stadium (home of the NFL New England Patriots) in Foxborough, Mass.

JOHNSON CONTROLS RELEASES NEW WEB-BASED GREENHOUSE GAS REPORTING SYSTEM
Milwaukee—Johnson Controls has released its enhanced Energy and Emissions Management System, which provides global organizations with the capability to analyze energy trends and calculate greenhouse gas levels. It measures, manages and forecasts activities related to energy cost, consumption, energy efficiency projects, fleet emissions and waste. The system is delivered by Johnson Controls Global WorkPlace Solutions.

BETCO ENHANCES PROPANE SELECTION WITH NEW BURNISHERS

Jersey City, N.J.—Acrilex, Inc. has added a new line to its Acriglas series called Mineral. Offered in a variety of colors and 20% genuine muscovite mica, the new series is a greener option for cosmetic displays, store fixtures and millwork. It is now available on two additional larger battery-powered ride scrubbers, including the Tennant 7300 Mid-sized Rider Scrubber and the Tennant 8300 Sweeper-Scrubber. Ec-H20 converts plain tap water into a powerful cleaning agent without any added chemicals.

NEW UVA KIT MADE TO KILL MICROORGANISMS
Burbank, Calif.—Steril-Aire, Inc. has developed the UVC Kit for Air Handlers that can be used in a wide range of HVAC applications. The new kit can destroy microorganisms such as flu viruses, bacteria and mold. The kit delivers the company’s UVC technology to fan coil unites, unit ventilator systems and indoor air handlers with coils up to 84 inches with dual access. The kit delivers energy savings on retrofit installations, maintains factor design efficiency on new unites and improves indoor air quality and infection control in all systems. Also, the high-output UVC Emitter has been tested to deliver up to six times the output of other ultraviolet devices under HVAC conditions.

EYE LIGHTING INTRODUCES UNIVERSAL MOUNTING LAMP
Mentor, Ohio—Eye Lighting, a lamp and light products manufacturer, has produced a 400W High Output Metal Halide Pulse Start Lamp. The lamp offers universal mounting, which eliminates models for vertical and horizontal mounting positions. The lamp also offers 7% more initial lumens in the vertical position and 11% more in the horizontal than competitive lamps. It also provides up to 21% more mean lumens. The company’s lamps feature reduced warm-up time and hot re-strike.

LAMAR LIGHTING INTRODUCES NEW LIGHTING FIXTURE
Farmingdale, N.Y.—Lamar Lighting has produced Aurora, a 4.5-inch by 4-inch lighting fixture that is available for recessed installation in either a T bar ceiling or flanged for sheet rock or concealed spline ceilings. Aurora is one lamp T5 or T5HO. The different lengths include 2 feet to 5 feet with optional MR16 modules. The lamp is ideal suited for offices, conference rooms, waiting rooms, retail stores and lobbies.

PHILIPS LIGHTOLIER’S CALCULITE LED DOWNLIGHT NAMED ‘MOST INNOVATIVE PRODUCT OF THE YEAR’
Fall River, Mass.—The Calculite LED downlight by Philips Lightolier has been named the “Most Innovative Product of the Year” at Lightfair International, which took place May 2009 in New York. The system offers a long lifetime, efficiency and lack of heat emission. Generating 50 lumens of light per watt of energy consumed, the system is 80% more efficient than common incandescent downlights and 40% more efficient than compact fluorescent.

NEW HYBRID CONVECTION OVEN ON MARKET
Chicago—Baxter Bakery has introduced a new hybrid convection oven that does not rotate the product but allows airflow to revolve through a fan in the rear wall of the oven, which draws heat to the oven’s side panels. Diffusers then distribute the heat throughout the oven. Made from stainless steal, the oven can accommodate standard 18-inch by 26-inch sheet pans and a “Quick Set” button that lets the operator program save up to 99 recipes. All Baxter equipment is supported by Hobart’s national sales, service and dealer network.

Secaucus, N.J.—The Panasonic System Solution Co. now includes integration with an additional seven POS/management software systems. Software providers can now offer their suite of solutions on Panasonic hardware platforms, including Panasonic’s new Stingray workstation. Peterborough, Ont. (Canada)—Enviro-Solutions has created ES 85 Scrub Free, which is like traditional strippers but it dilutes 1 to 4 and has very little odor. Green Seal and EcoLogo have certified the product, which proves its safety and protection of indoor air quality.

GEORGIA-PACIFIC PROFESSIONAL PROVIDES TOUCHLESS TOWEL DISPENSERS
Atlanta—Georgia-Pacific Professional has introduced two products — enMotion Impulse and enMotion Recessed Automated Touchless Dispenser — that reduce paper towel waste while cutting operational costs. The dispensers have reduced usage up to 20% and have increased operational efficiency.

NEW STUDY SHOWS MAJOR DIFFERENCES BETWEEN TOP RETAIL PERFORMERS AND UNDERPERFORMERS
Boca Raton, Fla.—The new study “Loss Prevention and Beyond: Survival of the Fittest,” which is sponsored by ADT’s Sensormatic Retail Solutions, has drawn conclusions that there are big differences between top retail performers — those whose sales growth outpace the 3% industry average — and retailers below that average. Differences include: Top performers use business intelligence tools like returns and void management technologies 46% more than underperformers; top performers use Electronic Article Surveillance technology three times more than underperformers; and 39% of top performers audit employees’ adjustments to the quantity of goods on hand whereas 9% of underperformers do the same. ADT Security Services is a unit of Tyco International.

LENNOX EXPANDS LARGE SPLIT SYSTEMS LINE
Dallas—Lennox has expanded its T-Class large split systems line to help commercial customers lower expenses and increase profitability. The line is available in capacities from 6 to 20 tons. The line features TSA condensing units, TPA condensing heat pumps and TAA air handlers to provide reliable cooling and heating for a wide range of buildings. The line also includes flexible designs for horizontal or vertical installations, slide-out blower motors and four-side access on indoor units for servicing, as well as factory-installed, high-static drive options for flexibility with applications and duct designs.

METAL-ERA INTRODUCES THREE NEW RIDGE VENTS
Waukesha, Wis.—Metal-Era Inc., a leader in commercial roof edge and roof ventilation solutions, has produced three new additions to its Hi-Perf line of ridge vent products. The three are sloped roof to high wall, sloped roof to vertical wall and sloped roof to flat roof. TWO AMERLUX LIGHTING SOLUTIONS RECOGNIZED AT NEXT GENERATION LUMINARIES COMPETITION
Fairfield, N.J.—The annual Next Generation Luminaries Competition, which took place February 19, 2009 in Santa Clara, Calif., recognized two products — the Amerlux Cylindrix II LED and Evoke 2.9 — of Amerlux Lighting Solutions. The products were evaluated based on their color appearance, rendering, appropriate illuminance, appropriate luminance, application efficiency, aesthetic appearance and style, and serviceability and replacement. The Cylindrix offers track-mounted accent and display lighting in a compact luminaire, and the Evoke 2.9 features a seven-diode cluster that produces more than 900 lumens of light.

KAIVAC INTRODUCES NEW CLEANING INDUSTRY SURVEY SERVICE
Hamilton, Ohio—Kaivac Inc. has produced a new cleaning industry survey service called the KaiBusiness Tracking Survey. The service, which questions cleaning professionals in a mix of market segments, is designed to help track trends and directions in the cleaning industry. The survey was first introduced in the monthly Kai-leidoscope newsletter where 2,900 subscribers were asked about their habits and experiences purchasing cleaning equipment online. Some of the findings included: Floor care equipment is most commonly purchased; 30% say they call customer service before purchasing online; and most purchases are for $500 or less.

AGC FLAT GLASS NORTH AMERICA OFFERS ENERGY-EFFICIENT GLASS
Alpharetta, Ga.—AGC Flat Glass North America has introduced a new product to its Comfort Ti line. The Ti-AC23 Low-E Glass has a solar heat gain coefficient of 0.23, which is the lowest level available in a product on a clear substrate. The Ti-AC23 is a high-performance product that maximizes solar control, light transmittance and air conditions efficiency, while also minimizing glare.

PHILIPS INTRODUCES NEW SUSTAINABLE LIGHTING APPLICATIONS
Somerset, N.J.—Philips Lighting Company has introduced two new lines of highly sustainable fluorescent lighting applications. First are the new 29 Watt and 31 Watt fluorescent T8 U-Bent lamps, which are energy-efficient and contain only 3 mg of mercury per lamp (currently the lowest mercury content offered in the industry). The new lamps are ideal for 2x2 fixtures within a broad range of retail settings. In addition to the T8 U-Bent lamps, Philips has introduced its highly sustainable 49 Watt fluorescent lamp for T5 High Output applications. Ideal for high bay applications within retail big box and warehouse/industrial spaces, Philips Lighting’s new Energy Advantage 49 Watt T5 HO lamp represents the lowest wattage and lowest mercury alternative to 54 Watt T5 HO technology. According to the company, the Energy Advantage 49 Watt lamp can deliver more than $17 in energy cost savings over the 35,000-hour rated average life of the lamp (on 12-hour starts and with a $0.10 kWh cost).

Saginaw, Mich.—Duro-Last Roofing, Inc. has introduced a new roofing system, the Duro-Last Rock-Ply. The new system is part of the Duro-Last Designer Series of roofing membranes. According to the company, the new product is ideal for commercial roofing applications where appearance is important, but traditional rock or stone ballast is not practical because of weight considerations or difficulty transporting the ballast to where it’s needed on the roof. The Rock-Ply membrane provides a ballast look and the watertight performance and long term durability of a thermaplastic, single-ply roofing system.
